he Stampmill building was built in 1897 by James Hollaran, who originally came to the hills with the Custer expedition of 1874. The building has been home to a variety of business including saloons, restaurants, hotels, boarding houses and a hardware store. The building survived the fire of 1904 that destroyed a fourth of the city and later survived underground mining subsidence that claimed most of the downtown district in the 20's and 30's. As the Stampmill begins its second century, it stands as one of the oldest remaining structures of Lead.
In 2007 Sheree Schriver and her three daughters, KarmenThompson, Meagan Schriver and Heather Peters, became the proud proprietors of the Stampmill. Dedicated to bringing new life and yet faithfully maintaining the history of this beautiful old building, Sheree and her daughters provide a piece of Black Hills history to all those who enter.
